The judgment scene is not an easy image to consider. It can be intimidating. How are we to prepare for something like that? Today's reading from Revelation explains that what we do in this life is a crucial aspect; people will be judged "according to their works."

The dragon is a symbol of evil at play in our lives. We are called to resist the subtle and not so subtle enticements of evil that confront us in daily life. In what we say and what we do, we are called to refrain from worshipping the beast.

Yet, life is not just about avoiding evil. Christ offers us an alternative that is much richer. Persevering in faith amidst temptations and holding on to what is right, is ultimately what brings us life.

The scene of judgment described today is not meant primarily to frighten us. It does, however, call us to shake away complacency and procrastination from our lives. It encourages us to take action and act according to our faith now.

What works will I be judged upon?

Lord, guide me and prepare me for that day when I will be judged.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
