Do we trust our guide? Can we surrender control and let someone else drive and yet another person navigate? Can we just sit back and relish the ride? The scriptures today invite us to surrender our desire for control and to place our trust in Jesus whom God has sent both to redeem us and to show us the way. Do we believe that God will lead us by the best path? It may not always seem to us to be the shortest or the quickest or the easiest path (the one which we might have chosen) but perhaps the way God desires to take us is the best path for us, if we will venture where God desires to lead us.
Ah, but how do we know God's will, whither God wishes to lead us? Jesus seems not to have suffered from this ambiguity. He did only the will of the One who sent him. Francis de Sales speaks of the two Wills of God: the Will of God revealed to us through the Bible and Church Tradition and the Will of God we discern in the circumstances of our lives. The first is fairly clearly defined and articulated and maps out our course in order that we might reach our desired destination. The second requires work on our part in that we must set aside some quiet time so that in the silence God may speak to our hearts, might manifest to us his will, might help us to make sense of our choices, so we may choose wisely and go in the direction God has indicated. And then we have to choose to trust and follow our guide!
Lord, You are close to all who call You.

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
