When the Psalms speak about God's victory power and might, we are in the Old Testament world, where Israel believed that God fought for them against their enemies. This imagery may not appeal to us in the modern world where there is so much war and suffering.
Following the pattern we saw in last Friday's reflection, we can see that, in today's Psalm, "victory" and "wondrous deeds" are parallel. Taught by Jesus that God is love, we see that God's real victory is the wondrous works of our cr eation, redemption and sanctification. God continues these wondrous deeds in his saints, as acknowledged by Our Lady: "He who is mighty has done great things for me."
In today's Psalm we see once again that salvation and justice are related as are kindness and faithfulness. These words and the themes associated with them give us a glimpse of the real spirituality of the Psalms, for the Psalms, being Israel's prayer must reflect the spiritual life of God's faithful people and how, beyond all the wars and other disasters, they were able to sing and rejoice because of God's wondrous works of salvation and justice.
Grant us, Lord, Your saving grace that we may in joy and peace praise, reverence and serve You all the days of our life.
