God is far more powerful than human evil, injustice, or suffering can ever be. Despite Pharaoh's attempt to wipe out the children of Israel Moses escapes, grows to manhood in the court, and then has to flee because of his killing of the brutal guard. But Moses was always exactly where God wanted him and God's will was always accomplished. We cannot judge our own lives - we don't know what God has in store for us. But neither can we judge the life of another. We should always keep our heart and mind open to God's will and ask only that God use us in whatever way is pleasing to him.
In our moments of doubt and struggle, we sometimes wish that we could see some of the powerful deeds and miracles of Jesus. We think that faith might be a bit easier if we had some kind of visible proof. But miracles and wondrous deeds didn't seem to help the people of Chorazin and Bethsaida. Maybe they were too cynical and hard of heart, for they were not impressed. Unless we are already people open to faith or the presence of God, miracles will not be much help. We need to be attentive to the quiet miracles around us each day: the miracle of life, love, human goodness, and the many little 'coincidences' by which God announces his caring presence anonymously.
Lord, open my eyes to Your presence.
