If we want to get the best out of our computers we have to keep the rules for their use. The word "rules", however, might start alarm bells ringing so I will use the less threatening word "instructions" instead. If we follow the instructions we will get satisfaction or even enjoyment from our computers. If we don't follow the instructions, then the computers can be damaged! For this privilege, however, we will lose our money!
In to-day's First Reading it could be that the words "predestined" and "conformed" might also set alarm bells ringing. Paul tells us that "we are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ". By this he means that God the Father, the great "planner" wants us to be like His Son in as many ways as possible. This plan, properly understood, is a recipe for a loving, peaceful, just and honourable world .
God's plan was in place before the beginning of the world. The plan, however is not arbitrary. It does not include some or exclude others for no other apparent reason than a whim on God's part. All are included, but none are coerced. We can opt out. The plan, the rules, the instructions are there something like the Instruction Manual that comes with a computer. Satisfaction is guaranteed if we cherish the ultimate Instruction Manual.
Heavenly Father, help me to join all those from East, West, North and South who are following the road map of the Kingdom.
