Being a committed Christian does not mean a ticket to an easy or comfortable life. Quite the contrary - signing on as a disciple of Jesus means that there will be challenges and struggles in our future. God has indeed rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of light. But one thing is asked of us: not worldly success or fame, but a life worthy of that gift - a life pleasing to God. Meeting each day with patience and love will ensure that our life will be spiritually fruitful and that we are truly walking with God.

What does it feel like to be around someone who is smarter, more talented, better looking, or more successful? Often we feel uncomfortable and wish they would go away. Being around them makes us feel inferior. Peter had that experience around the holy, wise, and miracle-working Jesus. Peter became very conscious of his weaknesses and faults - he felt downright sinful. Leave me, Lord! But Jesus will not hear of it - he humours Peter and with great kindness and confidence takes him on as an apostle. He will make him a real fisherman - this time catching souls for God. Jesus accepts Peter exactly as he is - just as he does with each of us. Jesus does extraordinary things with very ordinary people. The only requirement: humility and an open mind.

Lord, help me to live in a way pleasing to God.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
