The feeding of the 5000 shows Jesus as the provider of our needs for He is the bread of life (v.35). This parable is considered of great importance because the early Church saw in this miracle an implicit anticipation of the messianic banquet, Eucharistic symbolism esp. in the distribution of the bread and gathering the left-overs. It also shows Jesus' compassion for the people and the responsibility of the disciples to minister to the crowds.

Other references in the OT as in Is.25:6 where the Messiah would provide a banquet to the people and in Ex.16 wherein Moses provided manna for the people in the desert as well as in Elijah who fed a hundred men with 20 loaves. In this account, we see that the people ate and left thereof. (2 Kgs 4:24-42). This gives the background to the apostles' confidence to teach and proclaim the Good News that Jesus is the Christ (Acts 5:42).

As Easter people and followers of Christ, are we ready to share our faith and proclaim that Jesus Christ is our Saviour to those around us.

"Lord, grant us the grace to be Your true witnesses as followers of Your resurrection."

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
