Today we hear the prophet Isaiah describe a king to come. His reign will bring freedom and hope for a better future. He will be wise and even divine.
Isaiah foretells Christ's coming. Unlike many kings, however, Christ did not establish his kingdom by force, but rather, by service and love.
Today, eight days after the Assumption, the Church celebrates the Queenship of Mary. She is a queen because she shares in the kingship of her Son. We celebrate her role in salvation and her saying 'yes' to God's invitation. Saying 'yes' to God's plan was not easy, she could not see the way ahead clearly. She said 'yes', however, because she had faith that God would never abandon her. In the end, this 'yes' brought blessing to herself, the people around her and to all generations.
Like her Son, Mary serves even now. She intercedes for us in heaven.
God has an invitation, a call to each one of us. Like Mary, may we too say 'yes' to his voice in our lives. This may involve a risk. It may not be easy. May we trust that God wants what is best for us, that his voice will lead us to eternal life.
Lord, give me the clarity of knowing Your voice and the courage to follow it. Mary, Queen of Heaven, pray for us.
