"If only I can touch his cloak, I shall get well." If only we could touch his cloak, we could get well. We would be able to love each other. We would be able to tell each other what we feel and think and how we hurt. We would be able to comfort one another and hold one another when we hurt. We couldn't make the pain disappear or go away, but we could make the pain easier to endure. We could learn to laugh with one another and to cry with one another. We could learn to love one another freely and completely. We would be able to look at ourselves in the mirror and like what we see there. We could be healed of our self-doubt and the things we don't like about ourselves. We could let go of the anger, frustration, and hurt which we keep bottled up inside of ourselves. We could see the beautiful, good people God made when God created us. We could laugh at our mistakes and at ourselves. We could accept that we weren't created perfect or to be perfect but created in God's image as humans to be humans, as imperfect and incomplete and finite as we all are. We could learn to love ourselves for who and what we are - gifts of God. As the woman who reached out her hand was answered: "Courage, daughter! Your faith has restored you to health." So too are we answered if we reach out our hands and say amen.
Lord, 'if only I can touch Your cloak, I shall get well.'
