Naaman the Syrian was an enemy of Israel and yet he came to Elisha for healing of his leprosy. God revealed his power and compassion by restoring his health. The healing had a great impact on Naaman, who was very grateful and even decided to worship Israel's God in his own land. Gratitude is powerful and a wonderful way of giving back to God. So often we take God's gifts for granted and fail to show true gratitude. Jesus healed ten lepers and strangely enough, only one came back to thank him and to praise God - and the man was one of the despised Samaritans! The other nine may have been healed in body but they still clung to the image they had of themselves as lepers. Sometimes we find it difficult to let go of old attitudes and ways of looking at ourselves. We sometimes fail to experience the full healing that God offers. The Samaritan - just like Naaman - was an outsider. Sometimes outsiders have clear insight into the presence of God and His ways. They are searching and eager, and do not take God's power and compassion for granted. Christians can sometimes be apathetic and smug. As Paul tells us, the Word of God is not chained or confined - it works in numerous places and people and in ways that can shock and surprise us. Maybe the Samaritan can teach us a thing or to - how to be amazed at God and to rejoice in Him!

Lord, help me to be grateful.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
