Humility is not a mere attribution of God, but what God is---God is humble. He chose one of the smallest and most afflicted nations, the Israelites, as his own people. He chose a poor carpenter, Joseph, as the foster father of his son, Jesus, and an ordinary woman, Mary, as his mother. Jesus chose twelve uneducated and poor fishermen as his apostles, and all of us as his brothers and sisters, children, because of him, of our heavenly Father. All of God's deeds and manner of acting send us a very clear and strong message about what He is. Humility forms our identity. In humility, we realize who we are and what we are - we are not our own masters. Thus we can never know what is going to happen to us tomorrow. However, this reality is not totally negative, because it teaches us to trust, to surrender, to believe in God, who is the master of our life. Fortunately, this master is Love itself and so can never harm us but continuously loves us, supports us and protects us. With this master, we have complete confidence in putting ourselves into his hands.
Lord, I surrender myself to Your loving hands for You are my home.
