Love is a commandment. It is not a burdensome commandment, because the source of love is God; the ability to love does not depend on our capacity or intelligence. Simply, God loves us first. Love is a free gift from God and so it is not burdensome.
But love is a commandment. No commandment is easy, because, if left to ourselves, we will surely ‘love’ discriminately; we will either follow our own inclinations and dish out our love with strings attached or withhold it altogether. But, always remember: love is God's free gift to us. Love is the relationship that bonds God the Father with Jesus the Son and the triune God with every one of us. Therefore, we are commanded to love God and our brothers and sisters.
Jesus uses his whole life to reveal himself to us as the source of love, and he shares with us the way to love: to free the captives, to enlighten the blind, to help the troubled ones to break their fetters. Jesus shows us how to love.
Lord Jesus, give me strength and faith to spread the good news to the poor. Help us to love one another.
