We have many false stereotypes about Jesus. Sometimes what we think about Him is not fully compatible with what is written in the New Testament. Some people used to think about Jesus as a person who speaks softly, calmly, nicely and never gets nervous. However, today's Gospel reading shows a completely different attitude of Jesus. People, who were listening to Him, were so surprised. He spoke differently and unlike the scribes, he taught them with authority. He gave orders and even unclean spirits obeyed him. He spoke powerfully.
This is also a true face of Jesus we should contemplate and imitate. The main virtue of Christianity is not to be nice, but rather to be real. If we want to be true followers of Jesus, we must be courageous and confident about our faith and the Gospel’s message. When we proclaim the message of Christ, people have to experience that there is an authority behind it and be astonished.
During prayer you can ask yourself what do you really think about Jesus. Which attitude of Jesus would you like to follow? However the most important question is: Do I know Jesus well enough? Only people who truly know Him are able to be like Him.
Lord Jesus, enlighten us so that we may come to know You more deeply.
