The Risen Jesus appeared to his disciples and greeted them: "Peace be with you". No doubt they were afraid and thought they were seeing a ghost. They had difficulties believing in Jesus' resurrection, even though they heard witnesses of people who had already seen him alive. Fear consumed them and closed their eyes to the good news.
Jesus was not disappointed with them. He wasn't angry that they did not believe in his words, but on contrary he went to them with the message of peace and hope. He just wanted to provide a proof that he was alive. He showed them signs of the crucifixion in order to make them believe. In this moment their fear was changed into a joy, just like that.
We may be like the disciples, fearful and doubtful, scarcely believing in Jesus' resurrection. Yet today's gospel shows that the Risen Jesus visits us and answers our questions and doubts. He wants us to become witnesses to his resurrection and spread his message to others. Let us open our eyes and heart to see the signs of the living Christ in our life. The more we open our heart to him, the more will we feel his consolation and joy.
Lord Jesus, may we never doubt You, as You never doubt us.
