There are three important men named "Joseph" in the Bible, all of them involved directly or indirectly in the story of Jesus, namely Joseph the husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus, Joseph of Arimathea, who helped to bury Jesus after his crucifixion, and then Joseph, son of Jacob, part of whose story we read today, with the great acclamation: "I am Joseph, I am your brother."

St Paul affirms: "By turning everything to their good, God co-operates with all those who love him" (Rom 8:28). Though Joseph's brothers were jealous of him and sold him as a slave, God, the Lord of history, would eventually lead Israel back out of Egypt to the Holy Land in the great journey of the Exodus and so turn their slavery into freedom and the covenant which gave meaning to their lives.

Today when we commemorate all the Saints and Blesseds of China, let us remember that St Joseph is the Patron Saint of China.

St. Joseph, in union with all the Saints and Blesseds of China, protect the Church in China and grant that all who bear the name of Christian may grow in wisdom and grace for God's greater glory.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
