We pray today to grow in our desire for God. God created us with a body and soul, and both have many desires. Bodily desires are important for our physical growth and human growth. The desires of the soul are more important for they guide our growth in holiness. When God created us, he put three fundamental desires into our soul: the desire of divinity, the desire of transcendence, the desire of immortality, and by these desires God the Trinity draws us to themselves, that we may become true children of the Father, more closely united with Jesus, more open to the Holy Spirit's guidance.
The desire of divinity draws us to become more truly the image of God which we have been created to be. The desire of transcendence, urges us to go beyond all the limits which time and space, our talents and capabilities impose on us. The desire of immortality leads to the true hope of finally overcoming death's terror in the resurrection. We cannot perfectly attain the objects of these desires by our own effort. It in only in Jesus, through Jesus and with Jesus that we can be true children of God, attain to eternal life and after death live eternally with God in the Kingdom of heaven.
Lord, increase our desire to be united with You.
