Jesus is a humble and patient teacher. In today's gospel passage, he refers to the Jewish law as a "yoke", which is heavy, and which Jewish people must endure. Jesus is talking to his disciples. Many among his listeners are simple folk who are wearied and burdened by the obligations and responsibilities of everyday life. Jesus does not abolish the law or remove its load from people. Rather, he offers them his law of love, which is easy and light to bear.

Jesus is teaching us his way, and in learning his way we have the strength and courage to carry his burden with peace and joy.

Coming from the Father, Jesus shows us the love and mercy of the Father in our life and in our own cross, including even in the requirements of the law.

While we contemplate the face of this gentle and humble God, may we have the faith and courage to lay down before him our anxieties and weariness and, together with the Lord, take a good look at this debilitating baggage.

Father in Heaven, look down upon us in mercy and love and listen to the groaning of the earth and of all humanity.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
