In Jesus' time, widows lived in vulnerable circumstances. They did not have secure income or care from others.

So for a widow to give not just one coin, but everything she has to God, is an act of great faith. She likely considered this question, 'If I give this away, will there be enough for me?' She trusts that God will somehow provide for her needs. Jesus notices her generosity.

At this point in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is about to enter into the passion. Through this suffering, Jesus will make an act of great generosity to God. He will give everything he has to the Father. Though there is great pain, Jesus trusts deeply in the Father's care for him.

We are invited to be generous to God. Yet, placing ourselves in God's hands is risky. At times we too think, if I give of my time, my money, or my energy, will there be enough remaining for me? Jesus invites us to trust that God sees everything we offer. God has a deep care for us. God is never outdone in generosity. In what way am I invited to be generous to God?

Lord, bless me with courage to trust in Your care for me.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the aged, marginalized, and those who have no one may find - even within the huge cities of the world - opportunities for encounter and solidarity.
