People can often be very self-righteous and judgmental of others. We project our own inner darkness on others rather than looking within ourselves. David had been very unjust - he had committed adultery, treachery, and murder in the pursuit of his desires. Nathan the prophet presented David with his sins but hidden in a story. David got very angry at the villain in the story, who was actually himself, and shouted that the man was a wretch and deserved to die. Nathan then clobbered him - he pointed his finger and said, 'You are the man!' Nathan listed all the wonderful things God had done for David and asked the basic question, 'How could you do this?' For some people, having everything is never enough. Before judging others, we should tend to our own house.

Being spiritual or holy is not about being perfect. In fact, sometimes our efforts to be perfect can be a form of arrogance or pride. Paul assured us that it is Christ alone who saves us when we place our faith in him. He dwells in us and accomplishes what we could never do on our own. This was also evident in the case of the sinful woman. The 'righteous' people were scandalized that she approached Jesus and touched him with her tears and her hair. They even despised Jesus because he allowed her to do so. But Jesus pointed out that the extraordinary love that she had shown from the moment she entered the room was proof that God had been at work and that she was already forgiven, despite her many sins.

Lord, free me from my hidden sins.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the aged, marginalized, and those who have no one may find - even within the huge cities of the world - opportunities for encounter and solidarity.
