Many think that good changes can only come about through force, loud voices, and violence. The suffering servant of the Lord, on the other hand, is just the opposite. He is quiet, gentle, and non-violent. He practises what he preaches. How does he accomplish his mission? Easy - the Spirit of the Lord is within him. In his quiet, persistent, way he will not cease until the entire earth has been remade in justice. This is what separates true messengers of God from rabble-rousers, demagogues, and revolutionaries. The Spirit is the most powerful tool that we can have.
Some people find it difficult to see the goodness in the kind actions of others. They often miss the deeper meaning. Mary the sister of Lazarus anointed the feet of Jesus with an expensive ointment. Some were outraged - what a waste of money! But Jesus was firm: he ordered them to leave her alone, for she had done something beautiful - she anointed Jesus for his burial! We should take care not to be cynical or judgmental when we encounter the good deeds of other. On the other hand, we should not hesitate to do something for others because we fear it may not be grand enough. Acts of goodness and kindness are holy, and the simplest act can be the most profound and treasured. Divinity is often concealed in the ordinary, and by serving others we serve God.
Lord, may I always see the goodness and kindness in others.
