As children of the resurrection we are children of God (cf. Lk 20:36). In today's Gospel passage we read about the quality of our lives after the resurrection. The Sadducees had a materialistic and narrow understanding of the meaning of "resurrection" and so did not believe in it. Jesus clears up their doubts. When Jesus says that we will be like angels after the resurrection, it means that our bodies will be transformed and glorified. We will be free from all materialistic desires.
By calling us children of resurrection, Jesus invites each one of us to live a life worthy of resurrection. Thus our earthly existence must correspond to the faith that we profess. Our belief in the resurrection should percolate to every sphere of our lives, especially to our moral and spiritual life.
Since our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1Corinthians 3:16), we must respect their dignity. We can do this by turning away from evils like drinking, smoking, drug-abuse and any kind of violence against each other. Jesus elevated the dignity of the human body by his incarnation. St. Paul teaches that we carry the death of Jesus in our bodies and therefore we need to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God.
Lord, grant us the grace to lead holy lives.
