Some say that Jesus was only a great teacher or prophet. Hebrews has a different view - Jesus was the reflection of God's glory, an imprint of God's very being, and the one who sustains all things. Since God has revealed many things through him, we can accept and trust the revelation and walk courageously and powerfully the path to which Jesus calls us. There is no reason for doubt or fear. Timothy is of the same opinion - God did not give us the gift of cowardice, but the Spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. We lack nothing - all we need do to meet the challenges of life is rekindle that Spirit within us.

Faith - absolute trust in the power, goodness, and love of God - is a power that can move mountains. Even a little pure faith, the size of the mustard seed, can affect great change. Doubt and negativity are the great destroyers and block God's efforts to help us. Living in faith does not mean doing it for a reward or to go to heaven. The parable of the slaves that Jesus told makes it clear: we live a life of love and service because that is who and what we are - it is what is expected of us. We should not think of our efforts as a great achievement deserving a reward. In short, our ego and selfishness cannot get involved in it! The joy of love, service, and doing the will of God is reward enough. God gives us many opportunities to act on this each day.

Lord, free me from ego and selfishness.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
