"The wisdom of this world is absurdity with God."In the whole history of the human race it seems that there has almost never been a time when wise men or women ruled our countries. We have to say "almost never,"for there have been men and women rulers who have been truly wise because they have been saints. In faith we may go further and affirm that only saints are truly wise in the sight of God and in the sight of those who can look beyond the dishonesty and venality, the foolishness and incompetence of the world's leaders to hope for leaders whom God would recognize as truly wise.

We may adopt the words of today's Psalm and reflect: "Who is truly worthy to ascend to the pinnacle of political power and who will truly stand up for peace and justice in this world?" The Psalm provides the beginning of an answer: "Only one whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean."

Lord, for the sake of your people and for all of us, especially for all the poor and the marginalized and for all who are threatened with terrorism, send us truly blessed and wise leaders.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That each may contribute to the common good and to the building of a society that places the human person at the centre.
