"Do not neglect to show hospitality, for by that means some have entertained angels without knowing it." In the context of the contemporary refugee crisis, Pope Francis has gone a step further than the writer of Hebrews and has affirmed that hospitality is our best protection against terrorism.

One writer has suggested that hospitality in Judaism and Christianity is rooted in the doctrine of creation, for Creation means that God created a home for us and welcomed us into their Trinitarian life. This is a very beautiful and profound insight. All our true insights into our Catholic doctrine must go back, in some way, to the mystery of Creation and reflection on the mystery of creation draws our minds and hearts to the mystery of the Trinity.

We must not be naive: an equitable and permanent solution to the current refugee crisis will not be easily achieved. Yet, Jesus has taught us that the beginning of the Kingdom of God can be as small as a tiny mustard seed. With faith we can hope that our tiny gestures of hospitality, friendship or dialogue will be the mustard seeds that will flourish and bring many of the graces of the Kingdom to our society and our lives.

Lord, grant us the wisdom we need to make our world a more hospitable place.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all those who are afflicted, especially the poor, refugees, and marginalized, may find welcome and comfort in our communities.
