Knowing God and living by his commandments is not a human effort alone. It is a grace which is given to us first, by God. We will not know God unless God chooses to reveal himself to us.

Some people may believe that anyone who regularly receives the Eucharist and prays, will, even though inconsiderate to others, nevertheless, surely receive all the necessary graces and blessings and will know God better than others. Today's Gospel is a testimony against such an understanding. The children like the humble and open hearted, are ready to receive God's revelation. Not so the proud who proclaim that they know everything about God. We have to empty ourselves and acknowledge that we are dependent wholly on God alone. It is to such people, not to the clever and proud hearted that God will reveal the kingdom. Moses was one of the most humble persons to walk on the face of the earth and he was the greatest of all the prophets. He was meek and humble and he was ably rewarded for that. Jesus, Himself, is an example of such openness, which allowed him to receive everything directly from his Father.

Lord, with humble and contrite hearts we ask for the grace to be open and receptive to Your message and to live by it.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord and the beauty of the Christian life.
