Original sin is the sin that Adam and Eve committed. In some way it is transmitted to us through our human nature. What is more important than the way of its transmission is the way in which it affects us. One of the certain results of original sin is the difference between our words and our actions. Isaiah saw this many centuries ago. The prophet feels that God has commanded him to denounce the sins of Israel. God speaks of their sin and at the same time acknowledges that the people continually seek him and "desire to know God's way". The prophet continues to point out this contradiction between their religious practices of prayer and fasting and their "own pursuits," which are unjust activities. Several prophets point out the hypocrisy in professing to believe one thing and conducting religious activities accordingly while at the same time continuing their unjust treatment of their fellow Israelites. On one occasion Jesus spoke like God and denounced the Jews and indeed people of all ages of history: "this people honours me with its lips but its heart is far from me." Let this be a call to us to live our faith fully and honestly.

Lord, grant us the grace to integrate our faith and all our interpersonal and social activities and live according to Your own heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
