Seeing is not always believing. Similarly, amazement does not always lead to faith. The cure of the dumb man led to amazement and this amazement lead to a search for an explanation. Some sought an explanation in the power of the devil, which, as Jesus went on to demonstrate, was illogical. To those who demanded a sign from heaven, he issued a challenge: "If it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the kingdom of God is upon you," (Lk. 11:20).
When disasters occur, many people ask why God would allow such things to happen. When great good fortune occurs, we probably do not so promptly ask why God allows such a great thing to happen. We are too frequently more prone to blame than to be grateful. Let us, rather, be quick to see the finger of God at work in all things whether good or bad, for "God uses all things for good for those who love him" (Rom 8:28). Then what is good will teach us to be grateful and what is bad may teach us to be attentive to God and learn to act more wisely and justly according to God's word and enlightenment.
Lord Jesus, may we love You in all things, through all things, in spite of all things, and forever.

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
