The first reading today is from a later part of the book of the Prophet Isaiah. Hebrew Bible experts refer to that part as the "Book of Consolation." It fits well into our Advent readings because it resonates with a major theme of the season: hope and trust in the personal love of God who wants what is best for us.

God's is a rescuing love, and a love that empowers us to act on His behalf. The images here capture our imagination and promise an exciting response to God's loving initiative: "Those who hope in the Lord... put out wings like eagles; they run and not grow weary, walk and never tire."

A reading like this invites us to reflect on the initiative of God who calls and to receive the strength we need to respond with vigor to His call. Can we truly believe that we will be filled with hope and will soar as if on eagles' wings? Are we bold enough to walk/run without weariness?

Questions such as this inspired by God's Word help us as we continue our journey through this grace-filled season. Our prayer needs to be that we be open and responsive to that Word.

Be at our side, Lord, with Your invitation that brings life. Help us to be eager to respond to the needs of our world with the help of Your hopeful and affirming grace.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That people, who are involved in the service and transmission of faith, may find, in their dialogue with culture, a language suited to the conditions of the present time.
