Many responded to the first proclamation of the Lord Jesus with eagerness. They embraced the faith with joy. Unfortunately, there were some who did not realize how radical the teachings of Jesus were. They wanted Gentile converts to submit to circumcision and the dietary laws. There are always individuals who put barriers in front of others, making it harder for them to approach God. We have that tendency in our own Church. We must remember: Jesus is for all; we should clear the path for others and help them on their journey.

Jesus used the image of the vine to describe his relationship with his followers. If we 'abide' - dwell or remain - in him always, we are nourished by the Spirit, and we will bear fruit. But we must abide always - not just for an hour on Sunday. If we do not, we will be cut off from the source of nourishment. We might not notice at first, but we will become spiritually brittle and empty, just going through the motions of religious observance. That is the death of religious faith, and it is the fate of many. Our hearts and minds must rest in Jesus always - let us bear much fruit.

Lord, may I abide in You always.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
