Following the exhortatory teaching of many biblical passages, such as the passage from the Letter to Titus which we read today, Pope Francis carries out his papal and apostolic mission. Much has been written about his efforts to reform the Roma curia. But it is obvious that he is greatly concerned to lead the People of God in the ways of holiness. The Psalmist today teaches us: "turn from evil and do good". Similarly Pope Francis has reminded us that it is not enough not to do evil, though that is indeed an important part of a Christian spiritual life. Pope Francis exhorts us to positively do good. It is not enough for perpetrators of abuse to cease their abusive ways. They must also become dedicated to doing good, the first step in doing good being for them to make reparation for their abusive sinfulness in prayer and repentance. Pope Francis has an even wider perspective: The whole church has been tarnished by the sins of sexual abuse, and so all of us together as the Body of Christ should responsibly and in a spirit of joyful adoration undertake the ministry of reparation in prayer and fasting.
Father in Heaven Forgive your Church all its sinfulness and restore to it a deep understanding of its call to holiness in doing good in the world in imitation of Jesus, who "did all things well" [Mk 7:37].
