It seems rather childish of the disciples to be arguing which of them was the greatest. Great teacher that he was, Jesus did not directly reprimand them for their foolishness. Neither did he try to distinguish "childishness" and "childlikeness" for them in an intellectual way. Even when he brought the child to stand beside him, he spoke first of all about acceptance rather than the futility of comparison with one another. He climaxed his teaching at this point with a saying that they could easily keep in mind to help them reflect on the paradox of the Kingdom of Heaven, where true greatness is simply accepting each other in Jesus' name, and because of Jesus and the Kingdom, he calls us to enter and thus attain reconciliation with the Father.
Lord, help us to be better stewards by freeing us from all disabling attitudes such as useless comparison with others.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
