We are familiar with the Parable of the Sower and the explanation on the significance of the Seed (Word of God) and the four kinds of soil into which the seed falls. They represent the different types of people who respond to the Word of God differently, namely the following Challenges:
Firstly, we need to listen to the Word of God with faith otherwise we will succumb to the evil force which opposes God's plan. Secondly, we are to withstand all adversity with the world we live in. Thirdly, we are to be aware of the worldly actions which will take us away from the Word of God. Finally, we want to welcome the Word of God with open heart and mind and allow it to grow to maturity in our lives so that we become true witnesses of God.
Jesus continued to talk about the need to listen intently, so that we could live good lives. (Lk. 6:48-49). We Christians need to receive the Word of God with an honest and responsive heart in our daily life.
In the first reading, Paul spoke about the fruits of sowing that depend on what and how we sow. Paul knew that Christians in Corinth had not yet come to understand that in order to fully participate in the risen life of Jesus, some radical transformation of their bodies was needed. Paul argues that in 1 Cor. 15:42: "What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable." Since they were yet to die it is impossible that they had already gone through the necessary transformation.
"Lord, help us to be transformed by Your word so as to live Your Word faithfully in our daily living."
