The writer of Hebrews provided a list of people who had been faithful to God. Their faith in God's love and protection had motivated them to act. These people of faith had a deep insight into and connection with God. But their faith did not stop with a feeling; their faith stirred them into action. Noah believed God and built an ark - he must have been ridiculed but he followed his belief that God was trustworthy. Our faith must motivate us to act. It is not enough to say that we believe in God. Faith is deeper than that. True faith resides in the centre of our being and is our prime motivator. What are you doing differently because of your faith in God?
Jesus was on a mountain with Peter, James and John. In Scripture significant events took place on mountain tops and this was certainly significant. Jesus' body was transformed, and his clothes shone brilliantly. Elijah, representing the prophets, and Moses, the Law, appeared. Peter was overcome and wanted to mark the event by building a shrine - a common response to such an event if you consider shrines like Lourdes, Medjugorje, Fatima. The voice from the cloud echoed the voice at Jesus' baptism: "...my Son the Beloved; listen to him!" We are also encouraged to listen to Jesus.
Lord, help me to be still and listen to You.
