Jesus conquered the world by his fidelity and trust in the Father. In a similar way, we overcome the world by our faith in Jesus and our fidelity. Believing in Jesus is far more than believing in a creed or doctrine. It means that Jesus becomes the pattern and the model for our own lives. John insists that the Spirit, water, and blood all bear witness to Jesus. These three things represent the divine and the human, and in Jesus our humanity is joined with the divine.
The leper was so used to being rejected that he could barely ask Jesus for healing. In a timid voice, he merely said to Jesus that he could heal him if he wanted or chose to do so. Jesus sounded almost indignant - of course I want to! He healed the outcast man and restored his dignity and place in society. We are often timid about asking God for healing or other things. We are afraid of being rejected or told that we don't deserve it. Jesus encourages us to ask - after all, that is his role. He is our redeemer, elder brother, and friend. We should not be timid about approaching him.
Lord, help me to be faithful to you in all things.
