The Word of God cannot be confined, arrested, or blocked. When the apostles were thrown into prison, they probably never dreamed that an angel would arrange their prison break. We can only imagine the shock and fear of the guards! The story is an encouragement to all those who are persecuted for their faith. God remains with them, and the Word will always be set free.
'God so loved the world that he sent his only Son ...' This is the most famous passage in the New Testament. God desires humans to have eternal life; God wants all of us to be in His presence. The Son judges or excludes no one; people judge or exclude themselves by their acceptance or rejection of his teachings and invitation. Why do some flee from the light?
Light and pure love can be painful to those locked in sin and refusal to love. Some prefer darkness, and they are a source of grief and pain to others. Therefore, it is so vital that we continue to love and reach out to all, regardless of who they are. No one is beyond hope; it is never too late. Let us always take this Good News of God's love, in thought, word and deed, to a hurting and fearful world.
Lord, may I be a source of hope to others.
