Jeremiah was sharing the plan for the restoration of Israel's homeland and relationship with God.

God would be the God of all of Israel and would continue to be faithful to the Israelites for he loved them with an everlasting love. The people who were committed to God would rejoice as they would be able to plant their crops once more, and they would turn to God with happy hearts.

Jesus' initial words to the Canaanite woman recall that his mission was to be to the Israelites alone. However, the woman would not accept Jesus' response and was persistent.

In response to her persistence, Jesus remarked on her faithfulness and gave her the desire of her heart - her daughter's healing. This reminds us of Jesus' healing of the centurion's servant due to his deep faith (Mt 8:5-13; Lk 7:1-10) and also the encouragement of Jesus to be persistent in our prayers. God honours our faithfulness and our persistence in taking time to communicate with him, to listen to him and to obey him.

Lord, help me to be faithful in reaching out to You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
