Today's Gospel reading reminds us of our prophetic role as followers of Christ. Here we see how John the Baptist lived out his prophetic mission. He denounced the evil that King Herod had done, and for that, he was silenced by imprisonment and later beheaded - an offering of himself for the sake of justice!

By this we are aware of the threats to our prophetic ministry -- to be ready to be silenced and risk our lives even in death. Are we prepared for such a sacrifice?

We are expected to be authentic witnesses of Christ's love in justice and truth in today's world!

In the book of Sirach, David called on God and courageously faced the challenge of the giant Goliath and brought him down. He relieved the shame of the people of Israel and gave thanks to God.

Let us be courageous to speak up and do what is right as our responsibility as witnessing Christians in today's society. Despite the hardship and challenges, the Lord assures us of his care and protection.

"Lord, grant us the grace to live out our prophetic role today."

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray that the cries of our migrant brothers and sisters, victims of criminal trafficking, may be heard and considered.
