Being eloquent and well-educated is a good thing, but it is no guarantee that we will be right about everything. Even good intentions are not enough. Apollos was all of these things - fervent, zealous, and well-prepared - and yet his knowledge of the Way of Jesus was incomplete. It was no fault of his, and when others talked with him, he was humble enough to listen. We should always be open to new insights and challenges to our own opinions. This is the way we grow! No one has the whole or perfect truth; we all have a piece of the puzzle, but together we can put these pieces to form the big picture. Jesus insists that when we ask for something in his name, it will be granted. Most of us have prayed for something during our lifetime and not received it. What is the problem? It's simple - something is missing. To pray in the name of someone is to pray with their mind and heart. We have to be abiding or dwelling in Jesus in our consciousness before we can ask for something in his name. Dwelling in the mind and heart of Jesus is something we need to do always, not just when we want something. In the passage from John, Jesus assures us that his return to the Father empowers us to receive the Spirit and know the way to the Father.
