St Paul reminds us today that through baptism, we became light in the Lord so we should live like children of light. These words re-echo Jesus- call to be the light of the world.

The first important condition of living like children of light is sacrificial love, whose example Jesus gave us when He offered himself for our salvation on the cross. This love should be expressed in our life through kindness and heartfelt forgiveness.

The second requirement of giving witness to the light of our faith is purity and chastity. St Paul warns us that every form of impurity or sexual disorder puts our salvation in danger. Sexual sins darken immensely our soul, heart, mind and will. They also turn us away from prayer and make us unable to love God and our neighbours.

The third condition of being the light of the world is thanksgiving. Thanksgiving opens our eyes and hearts to see the goodness of our Lord. Indeed, it is thanksgiving that also makes us gracious and positive towards our neighbours. St Paul sees thanksgiving as a remedy for the hurtful and malicious words uttered against us.

Today let us ask our Lord that He may free us from any darkness in our lives and that we may live like children of light.
