In today's Gospel, we see Jesus in Capernaum, busy with his ministry by listening to those in need of Liberation. He was popular and well sought after!

However, Jesus did not want such popularity as it might make him a victim of popular pressure which often happens today for many politicians. Instead, Jesus chose to be at prayer - to be in communion with His Father. Here he listened to God and submitted himself to God's will for His people.

We too need to pray to discern God's will. Otherwise, we may be tempted to give in to seek cheap popularity for self-glory at the cost of God's mission. We have to be alert of this. Our relationship with God develops and shows itself in our responses to the daily challenges in life.

In the second reading, Paul challenges us to assume our responsibility in bringing the Good News to all irrespective of race and creed, which can divide us. Can we take up the challenge as revealed in Paul's own life? "...as a slave to others. I do this for the sake of the Gospel..." (I Cor 9:19, 23).

We have another example Job, who in the first reading acknowledges that life on earth will pass because our life is but a breath, (see Job 7:7).

Lord, grant us the grace to strive to be Your faithful witness in the world.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for women who are victims of violence, that they may be protected by society and have their sufferings considered and heeded.
