Biblical scholars agree that the Gospel passage reads more like John's Gospel than from the Synoptics. It is John who speaks more deeply of the intimate relationship between Jesus and his Father in Heaven.
Jesus expresses himself in negative sentences: "No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son - and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him." Nevertheless, we can hear in Jesus' words several promises: it is possible to know God the Father, not directly in this world but through Jesus' earthly life and ministry. Furthermore, we can be sure that Jesus does wish to reveal the Father to us. This knowledge is not merely knowledge about God the Father or knowledge about the doctrine concerning the Father. It is rather a matter of personal knowledge of ourselves as beloved children of the Father. To enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we must become like little children. This beautiful Gospel passage assures us that we can indeed be children who may enter the Kingdom of Heaven through Jesus and his revelation.
Lord Jesus, through Your continued life in the Church, teach us to know the Father.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
