Most of Jeremiah's prophecies were gloomy and grim. He warned the people unless they repented, they would be conquered and driven into exile. And that is what happened. But he also followed this with a vision of wild rejoicing and hope. God would eventually gather them together and lead them all back. We never need to lose hope, for God never abandons us.

Jesus became the eternal high priest by his willingness to face suffering, temptation, and vulnerability. He endured and overcame it all. Jesus is able to be compassionate and understanding with us because of his own experience. We always have one to whom we can turn and be supported.

Bartimaeus' world consisted of the bits of conversations he heard as people walked by. He often heard the name of Jesus and accounts of his deeds. When Jesus approached, he began to cry out for healing. People tried to silence him, but he would not cease crying out. Jesus stopped and asked the man what he wanted Jesus to do for him. He wanted to see - that should have been obvious - but Jesus always respects human freedom. His persistence and faith set him free. We should never give up calling out to the Lord.

Lord, may I always be compassionate with others. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That every baptised person may be engaged in evangelisation, available to the mission, by being witnesses of a life that has the flavour of the Gospel.
