In this wonderful Gospel story, we have a summary of the whole Christian life and, within it, a model of a Eucharistic celebration. We have two people on a journey not knowing where they are going, and in fact, they are going the wrong way. Then, unknowingly, Jesus comes into their life and opens up the whole message of God about life for them. They respond by offering the stranger the hospitality of an inn. But the bread they put on the table is taken by the Stranger, broken and shared with them. And then, He was out of their sight.

At once, their eyes are opened. Immediately they continue their journey, but now it is back to where they came from - to Jerusalem and all their companions. They now know where they are going and what they have to do. May the Word of God and our sharedcelebration of the Eucharist have the same effect on each one of us.

Were our hearts not burning within us as He spoke with us on the Way?

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for health care workers who serve the sick and the elderly, especially in the poorest countries; may they be adequately supported by governments and local communities.
