The key word in today's readings is 'Light'. It is understood in the sense of a renewed awareness and hope of what is to come.
The victory of good over evil is proclaimed by Prophet Isaiah in the first reading. The Psalm echoes our plea: "The Lord is my Light and my help." The Gospel begins with two blind men going after Jesus, calling him in desperation: "Have compassion on us, Son of David!" Calling Jesus 'Son of David' is an open expression of the Messianic hope of the Jewish people.
Jesus then asked them: "Do you believe I can do this?" The blind men replied, "Yes, Lord, we do". Then Jesus said, "It shall be done to you according to your faith."
Do note that this declaration by the two blind men is the first instance in Jesus' public ministry, as recorded by St. Matthew. And the two blind men clearly saw the connection in who Jesus is. They saw through their eyes of faith what the religious leaders could not see, even though their physical sight and intellectual faculties were capable of comprehending.
Jesus sternly warned the two blind men, "See that no one knows about this!"" He did not want people to know about this. But the wonder of it all appears to have been too good for them to keep it secret. And they went out and spread the news about Him throughout all that land anyway, as they could not hold on to this truth for themselves. They wanted to share with others.
"Behold, our Lord will come with power and enlighten the eyes of His servants".
