Today we celebrate the conversion of St Paul. What is conversion? Whether in Hebrew (shubh) or Greek (epistrophe), 'conversion' relates to 'turning' -turning towards God.
Conversion begins with God's grace and invitation. The Lord invites a person to put down some behaviour or attitude that is unhealthy. It is also an invitation to draw closer to God and now embrace a way of living that leads to eternal life. Conversion is a process, and it takes time. Along this path, there are special moments when the grace of God is particularly evident.
For Paul, one such moment occurred on the road to Damascus when he encountered the Lord! During this graced encounter, Paul chose to accept Jesus' invitation humbly. That day Paul's life path changed. That day Paul turned more fully towards God. Through this turning, Paul discovered his mission in life: "You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard" (Acts 22:15).
Every Christian has a story. Have you ever had a memorable encounter with Jesus? If so, what did Jesus communicate to you that day? How is Jesus inviting you to turn to Him today?
Lord Jesus, help me see what You are inviting me to put down and see what You are asking me to embrace.
