Isaiah described the attributes of a righteous ruler - wisdom, understanding, knowledge, faithfulness, and fear of the Lord. This ruler would judge with righteousness and treat the poor justly while punishing the wicked. The message continued with proclaiming a beautiful vision of what the world would be like with such a righteous ruler - a peaceful and harmonious society would result. We can look at this passage in the light of the teachings of Jesus, for His vision of the world would result in peace and harmony if we followed the way of Christ.
The seventy disciples whom Jesus sent out had returned joyfully with healing stories. Jesus then rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and thanked God that He had revealed these truths to the vulnerable (infants) in society rather than the wise. For it is not with the wisdom of the world that God's truths are understood but with the hearts of those open to hearing. Jesus told the disciples that they were blessed to see what they saw, which was the fulfillment of that which kings and prophets longed to see.
Lord, open my heart to hear Your truths and follow Your way.
