David wanted to build God an elaborate house - a temple - but God was uninterested. God pointed out that He had never needed nor asked for such a building. This reflects the human desire to please God without asking what God wants.
We know what God wants - justice and mercy. But God did something for David -He promised to always be with David and his descendants. God is steadfast, faithful, and trustworthy - we should try to be the same.
As part of this incredible divine generosity, God revealed His plan to include the Gentiles in salvation - all the peoples of the earth. No one is an alien or foreigner in God's sight, which should also be part of our consciousness.
That promise to David was fulfilled in the words of Gabriel. Mary's child would sit on David's throne, and His Kingdom would have no end.
He would rule over the house of Jacob forever. He would be both the Son of God and the Son of David.
God does not forget or renege on His promises. God has never been absent or far from His people - we need to open our eyes and hearts.
Lord, help me to trust.
