"The Church is an evangelizer but she begins by being evangelized herself." (Evangelii Nuntiandi no: 14). How profound is this statement, especially in today's context with the ongoing synodal process? More so with so much violence and injustice, particularly in war-torn countries where thousands of innocent lives perish. The Church is challenged to live out its mission at this time of our history and do regular self-examination.

"The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few." (Lk.10:2)

Therefore, our mission is to be effective instruments of peace today. We must be convinced that we need to be enthusiastic and mission-minded in our responses to the daily challenges confronting us as Christians - the bearers of light in the world of darkness.

In other words, "the people of that time walked in darkness and have seen a great light; on those who live in a land of deep shadow, a light has shown." (Is.9:1-2),

Thus, to be effective instruments of peace, we must rely on God's power, and that depends on our relationship with God.

In the first reading, St. Paul reminds us that faced with challenges, God gives us the spirit of power, love and self-discipline to continue His mission on earth. (2 Tim. 1:7) ).
