Paul wrote to the Church in Rome about sin and grace. Sin came into the world through one man, Adam, but grace also came into the world through one man, Jesus Christ. Paul asserted that sin filled the world because all have sinned. Grace, however, was even more abundant because Jesus Christ provided this as a free gift for all. Through the obedience of our Lord, all have the opportunity to be made righteous and to inherit eternal life through Jesus Christ. All we have to do is believe, accept this gift of grace and follow Jesus' teachings.
Jesus was speaking about watchfulness and faithfulness. Followers of Jesus should always be ready to serve, knowing that at any time, Jesus may appear. Jesus mentioned that the Son of Man (Jesus) could return anytime. At the time of the writing of the Gospels, the people believed that Jesus would return within their lifetime. Over the centuries, we have realised that this has not yet happened, and Jesus is always present. We must live knowing that while Jesus is not present physically, His Spirit is always with us.
Lord, thank You for Your gift of grace, which is so freely given!
