Human beings live in time and space that is governed by the law of science and logic. Chronological time by its Greek name is kronos. People who believe in God live in a parallel reality; the kingdom of God exists in real time but allows for "divine time" , the Greek word for it is Kairos. While kronos has a past, present and future aspect, Kairos is always the present; an eternal "now."
With this in mind, one can better understand Jesus' words to His disciples, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away." (Lk.21:33) Indeed kronos-time is passing. This is evident in nature with Jesus citing the idea of the budding fig tree that indicates the passage of time and the arrival of new seasons. What is present becomes old and passes away, giving way to the new.
But Kairos-time is eternal and does not pass away. The word of God exists in that time and believers, although living in kronos-time, experience the eternal quality of the word and are prepared by it for their entry into eternity. This explains that, while the followers of Christ live in this world, they are not of this world since they do not subscribe to its beliefs and values. They do not fear the temporality of kronos-time and its threat but find their hope and trust in the Kairos-time of God with its promise of eternal life. Which time do you live in?
Jesus, may we serve You unreservedly at all times.
